Nov. 12th, 2018 04:03 pmSpinning: I finished off two spinning projects this long weekend. The first is a sweater project that keeps evolving. I spun 12 ounces of grey (beige?) natural colored Shetland and 4 ounce of dyed (green to purple to hot pink) Shetland. The first plan was for a stranded pattern, but now it is for a raglan sweater with colored arms (since managed two skeins of equal length with almost matching gradients). Current plan is to adjust the Jen pattern so that the arm splitting and v-neck are at the same point.
The other yarn will probably be used for socks. I broke a braid of Mountain Colors Targhee into three color piles (green, red and yellow), and blended each with .6 ounce Tussah silk (in three fall colors) on the drum carder. I spun each color as a single, then plied them together. I'm not impressed by the yarn, but I think it will blend more when knitted up.
Next up is more Targhee. I'd bought some SW Targhee that is light yellow to brownish green. The repeat was symmetrical, so I just broke it into thirds. Hopefully the plies will line up, and I might have matching toes.
Knitting: I'm actively working two projects. The socks are my portable project. I'd spun up some SW Targhee (which kicked off the Targhee kick). I think I went too fine, and one end of the ball is noticeably finer than the other. One sock is a gradient from green to blue while the other is marled. Who will notice when they're on my feet?
The sweater project doesn't fit in my work bag, so I'm only working on it periodically. It is a big pink cardigan, using up my combo spin with pinks. After three balls, I started on the sleeves. My plot to calculate the sleeves ran into gauge changes, so they're less fitted than intended.
