Declutterer
Jan. 18th, 2007 08:31 pmSee, years ago, I spent a time lonely and unhappy. But I made more money than I knew what to do with, so I tried to cheer myself up by buying stuff (I feel so stereotypically girly saying so). Especially DVDs. See, I didn't have internet at my house, and the ship's was barely fast enough to download email, let alone pirated movies (and probably a good way to go to captain's mast if caught). And I was just following the example of my boss (though with a couple years head start, and a higher salary, she had an amazing selection). There's probably something sad about having anime DVDs shipped to Japan, but we won't go there.
My life is different now. I make less money, and don't have a three bedroom house to myself. Which makes me not lonely. So I've started selling off some of my DVDs on Amazon used (to be honest,
lawnchair is doing all the work, which is why the money is not coming to me, but to our "romantic" fund). Not the anime, but movies and series I really didn't like that much. I now have 16 envelopes sitting on my kitchen table. And that is after a day since they went up online.
Now, one of the movies I bought on a whim was Black Scorpion. And it is corny, but I love it. It hits one of my squids, which is unrequited lust triangles. See, our main character is a cop who is in love with her partner. And he refuses her. After her father is shot dead, she becomes a vigilant called the Black Scorpion. Who has major chemistry with the police partner. Throw in some comic book stuff like a villain mind controlling people with asthma medication and a souped up car courtesy of the local chop shop, and fun. The sequel is horrid, but has has great scenes with the chop shop owner and his hooker girlfriend teasing the Black Scorpion.
So I got the series. Different cast, and it is complete camp, including Adam West as a villain of the week. I put it in the bye-bye pile. The fun part is that it had a very limited run. So despite the fact it cost $60 new, all the used copies are going for $240 or more. Except mine, priced at $120. Which sold quickly. Yes, I could have gotten more, but I'm just happy to have gotten that.
Now I have to figure out what to do with the "romantic" fund.
