I'm annoyed with amount of obsessing about today's anniversary, but I want to add to it. Fricking hypotcritical, I know.

There is a copy of Cry, Cry, Cry in my truck's CD player right now, so I've heard Shades of Grey multiple times this weekend. Like all my favorite songs, it tells a story. In this case, about a three young men who steal cows, sell them in Wichita, make a run to Mexico and get the shit scared out them when they get stopped by a massive force of law enforcement. I missed one of the messages for years as I didn't correctly parse the last line, "late April '95".

It's a date most of us forget. Maybe it was my age, teenager vs. adult. Or maybe it was what was happening in my life at the time, because I was already living a movie plot in September 2001. But that is when the terrorism shocked me. Suddenly, the world wasn't safe. Our own people, our own vets, would bomb the heartland, could hate our government that much, enough to kill children. That a couple of crazies could carry this out, without a world spanning conspiracy, with fertilizer. That scares me.
