Tenty Goodness

Boughts me a tent. Sierra Designs Mach 1. It's a small 1 person that I've been desiring since last June, but I didn't get when I wanted because Sunflower sold theirs right before I left for my train trip. It's tiny, so Kelly-sized. I decided last night, then got talked out of it because of the max height being only 30", right at my head when sitting. So after lab today I biked to Sunflower, and sat in theirs. Just right. Well, tight, might want to duck if it's rainy. But many companies have it on sale due to it no longer being made. REI was cheapest. I got the tent, a footprint and a first aid kit (because I want for the car) for $20 bucks cheaper than it was normally priced. Mine! And getting it from REI is nice because that's where I got my last tent from, 12 or so years ago. It's less than 4 pounds (3 lb, 10 oz, depending on what you take with it), and is well netted, with a full cover rain fly (which means I can get plenty of air when I'm not camping around a lot of people). Also, unlike my other tent, it stands up without stakes. The vesibule (under fly) on the side gives it more porch space, and the fly can be poled out, making a roof instead of a wall. So very useful for all the times I camp by myself. Well, I did manage some last year without Tom. And emboldens me to consider biking out to Lilies if I'm doing nothing much this summer (which sounds likely). Though I might ask for crash space in one of Svathy's GS tents if I do. Lilies is hot in a nylon tent, and to many people to leave off the rain fly. Now to continue pannier shopping.
