At Quests End
Jun. 13th, 2004 06:58 pmWow, now I remember why I have not been taking night transportation. It does save on hostel costs, but it wipes you out. I took the night bus from Ljubljana to Split. I had very careful saved just enough to pay for the bus, and have a few coins left over as souvenirs. But then he charged me for my luggage. To the last tolar. But I did not have to borrow from the other American on the bus, as I almost feared.
Then in Split, could not find an ATM that worked for me (I tried two, both on my ATM network). Thankfully the nice man trying to get me to rent a room pointed out an open money exchange, and there went my last Euros. Enough for the bus to Dubrovnik and a night at the hostel. Which I got lost going to. And it is not very nice. I sat in my bed reading for a bit, trying to decide if I had enough energy to make it to the supermarket, or if I could find a restaurant that took credit cards (not much luck anywhere else). But I did. I was also trying to figure out how to ask Mom to call my bank, and figure out why I could not get money. The magnetic strip worked, it called me by my name. Well, ATM number 5 worked, and I was relieved. And then ran into De from Ljubljana (I had slept next to her traveling bud Tom two nights before) and then met up with another girl. I think I shall try to get to Bosnia for a day with them. They are talking about renting a car, but none of us drive stick. Or to some islands. Currently at a really neat internet cafe.. it is in a park. I am under a tree, typing. Coolness, eh? And now off to the beach. Much better mood then 12 hours ago.
