Obsessions

My obsessions are spinning and travel, with sides of knitting and reading.
I finally started one large spinning project (combo spin with combo draft) and started second guessing myself halfway through the first bobbin. I'm not sure if I want to change my plan or keep on. On the other hand, I've got so many other spinning projects planned with supplies bought, I decided to just put that project on hold. So this evening I started on of the other planned projects. It's also a combo spin, but with tonals. It will be a two ply, with one being a combo draft of tonal dark brown rambouillet and blue-purple merino silk flax blend (from Nest) and the second one is combo drafted tonal dark purple (from the same dyer as the brown) rambouillet and purple/tan/grey polwarth silk flax blend (from Hipstrings bought at my last class at PlyAway 2019). I made a small sample to make sure the colors worked, then started on the first bobbin. It ends u p being a variable muted purple. Which is on brand for me.
As for travel, I am totally lost in googling around on things to see on my next trip, a road trip through the northwest with Lawnchair. I have route basically planned and stuff I want to stop and see every day. Lots of geology and landscape, very little cultural. I've reached out to a high school friend to hopefully get coffee. Haven't decided if I want to out to random uncle and do dinner.

Date: 2019-08-22 04:53 pm (UTC)How far does 'northwest' range? Far enough east to get into Idaho? I have fond memories of visiting Craters of the Moon and the Snake River area when I was a little kid... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craters_of_the_Moon_National_Monument_and_Preserve
I'm also interested in seeing EBR-I, but I'm not sure how far I'd go out of my way for it:

Date: 2019-08-22 11:05 pm (UTC)As for EBR-I, thanks for pointing it out. We'll be driving down Highway 20, so it's not more than a mile out of our way. Sadly, according to their website they're only open Memorial to Labor Day. I do have a tour scheduled for B Reactor at Hanford because nuclear power is fascinating. (Sadly, we won't be around for the monthly tours of LIGO at Hanford).

Date: 2019-08-22 11:20 pm (UTC)I was sick and stuck behind in the camper the year the family was in that area, but I still remember the talk about 'the mountain where the top came off' decades later...
It's a pity you won't be there before they close for the year. ;_; The Roadtrippers website does say that group tours can be scheduled year-round... maybe if you called ahead?
At least you'll get to see the prototype nuclear jet engines out in the parking lot... (I am Not Joking. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_Nuclear_Propulsion#Heat_Transfer_Reactor_Experiments )
