Book Recommendation

For all my friends who like Regency, but want a few less romance conventions (not that I'm dissing Romance, but sometimes the genre is a little to conventional), I recommend Madeleine Robins' Sarah Tolerance series (Point of Honor, Petty Treason, and Sleeping Partner). The main character ran off with her brother's fencing tutor ten years ago, and now works as an agent of inquiry (P.I.) instead of the whore society expects her to be. As a genre, it is a little hard to pin down (dash of hard boiled detective ala V. I. Warsharski, bit of alt historical with better history that most Regencies). Kickass herione (literally - she trained with the man she ran off with), female friendship, fraught family history... try it.
