Being Social Last Saturday
Nov. 22nd, 2010 09:04 pmLast Saturday I went to a surprise birthday party for my college roommate, C, as set up by her sneaky husband, C. The evening started at B's house, where we all stood around the living room waiting for C to lure his wife there on the pretext of showing her a present before dropping off the kids with her parents. B had made tasty lasagna, and C brought some of his homemade wild plum wine. Tasty wine.
Afterward dinner the group split, with most having other plans. C's plan next included going to a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream at KU. He'd bought two extra tickets, so Lawnchair and I tagged along (with B and another old roommate, H). And the play wasn't just any version, it was done with original pronunciation. While I haven't seen Midsummer before, I know the story, which helped as I couldn't always understand the words. But they rhymed.
Went out to Henry's for 'tinis after the play, and then home. As H currently lives in KC, she stayed in our spare bedroom. It was good to catch up with her - I don't think we'd seen her since we lived on Wisconsin St (and before she lived in Wisconsin).
ETA: I've been hanging around with costumers a bit much. The fairies used the same trick I had planned to use for 3rd place Dawn - full body suits (including hands)- for full body blue coverage. Thus, the only body paint was on their faces. Worked quite well even at close up (the fairies often wandered in the audience when they weren't in the scene). My favorite was Hippolyta's chainmail.
