Holes in Ground, Sticks in Holes
Apr. 2nd, 2010 06:14 pmTree order came in today. Thankfully, today's forecast of storms was all this morning, it is sunny out today. It isn't as warm as earlier this week, but high 60s is about perfect for physical exercise in sun. 2 dwarf apples, 1 peach, 1 dwarf pear, 2 dwarf cherries and two trenches of asparagus. It will be a while before we get food out of any of that. The trees are currently 2 foot tall twigs (though with the beginnings of leaf buds) and Mom warned me that it was three years until she got asparagus.
In other garden news, I ate my first garden product - chives. Last fall, Bear broke my pot of chives, so Lawnchair put them in the ground right outside the kitchen door. And promptly ran over them with the lawnmower. But they came back fine with the spring, and are big enough to harvest already. Nom, nom.
Spinach and onions are starting to come up. I think the lettuce planted pre-snowfall isn't going to start, so we started some more lettuce and radishes. Plan is to keep planting some every week or so until it gets hot.
Daffodils and hyacinths are the current blooming flowers. I see lily and tulip leaves, so we should get some of those later. I don't think there's any iris in our yard. Also, the redbuds are budding.
