Buffy vs. Edward
Nov. 3rd, 2009 09:52 pmSo some of you missed this.
From the video maker: In this re-imagined narrative, Edward Cullen from the Twilight Series meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's an example of transformative storytelling serving as a pro-feminist visual critique of Edward's character and generally creepy behavior. Seen through Buffy's eyes, some of the more sexist gender roles and patriarchal Hollywood themes embedded in the Twilight saga are exposed - in hilarious ways. Ultimately this remix is about more than a decisive showdown between the slayer and the sparkly vampire. It also doubles as a metaphor for the ongoing battle between two opposing visions of gender roles in the 21ist century.

Date: 2009-11-04 08:43 am (UTC)There were stronger female roles in the 1990s than there are now, and women are quickly becoming invisible if they are over 35 years old, over 5'6" tall, or over 110lb in weight.
My patient pointed out that, in some of the series and soaps that she watched, women who were strong and independent when they arrived in the programme a few years ago are now dependent, guilt ridden, evil or whatever.
Not the role models we would like for our daughters...
