The answer is sugar walnuts.

2 c walnuts
3/4 c sugar
1/4 water

Pour into a glass bowl and mix until walnuts are evenly coated. Microwave for approx 8 minutes, or until sugar starts to caramelize (but before the nuts burn), mixing every few minutes. Pour onto greased cookie sheet to cool. Store in airtight container. Serve in salad with fruit.

Serious tasty. And easy (though I'd recommend leaving the glass bowl in hot water for half an hour when washing).
