I was in a cooking mood, and hungry for chili. I tried looking for recipes, but.. So I tried the throw together method. It turned out tasty.

1 can kidney beans
1 can cannelloni beans
1 can great northern beans
1 can mushrooms
1 jar of whole tomatoes (blended)
3 small fresh tomatoes
2 frozen green chilis
4 tsps Penzey's Turkish spice
1 pinch salt

Open cans, put in crockpot. Put crockpot on low. Dice tomatoes and green chilis and put in pot. Add spices

2 small red hot peppers (I don't remember what I planted)
1/2 onion
1 tsp jar garlic

Cut up peppers and onion. Fry in small amount of olive oil until clear/carmelizing. Add to crockpot. Let cook for a few hours. Serve with cheese and tortilla chips.

sounds good. no meat? I like to use allrecipes.com especially because you can search by ingrediants.

No meat. If I want [livejournal.com profile] lawnchair to eat it so I'm not eating the same thing for weeks, I have to make it veggie.

I've used allrecipes.com, but I didn't find what I wanted.

recipe, we don't need no stinking recipe!

That's usually the way that I make chilli. I go through the kitchen and/or store and pick out what ever looks good and throw it all together. Normally it comes out pretty good. (I'm not sure if you can really make "bad" chilli). Some of my cooking is done by recipe and some by the adhoc method. I learned the adhoc from both my parents. My Dad would do baked beans by the "what ever sounds good throw in pot" method. My Mom often would experiment and one of our running jokes was "did you follow the recipe? No, of course not!"

Sounds like pretty good chilli, especially using the fresh from the garden ingredients. Next year I need to plant my containers so that I have some garden fresh goodies myself (or get to the farmers' market more often)

Later.
