Flew out last weekend for my ex-roommate T's wedding. Very fun.

I've known T for almost ten years now, since I moved into Sellards. I'm kind of surprised that I've stayed in contact with her, despite all her moves (and some of mine), but networks of friends helps with that.

So Tom and I flew out early Friday morning. There was heavy fog, so I was worried about getting to the airport on time (and [livejournal.com profile] auroraceleste's GPS directed us on a different route than I'm used to). But we didn't have any check in luggage, I'd preprinted our boarding passes, and everything worked out fine. We got to San Jose on time (and actually chatted with our seatmate), got our rental car (affordable rental on a hybrid Camry) and meet up with C&C (another ex-roommate and her husband) for sushi.

C really wanted to stop at a winery, and had printed out a map of all the wineries in the Santa Cruz mountains. However, the map only had the major roads, not the roads which wineries were actually on. Eventually we found one. I proceeded to get tipsy, and agreed to haul C&C's wine back for them (we didn't have any other luggage to check in). Figure Tom and I will drink our bottle for our anniversary (10 years end of November).

Hotel was cheap, picnic on beach was nice, if chilly. I amused myself by chasing birds away from the food table. Apparently I don't worry much about dignity when tipsy. Busy day, and slept happily.

Saturday morning, the four of us drove down to Monterey to the aquarium. I now can tell sea otters from river otters. Saw some awesome jelly fish and petted a bat ray.

The wedding was held on the grounds of a culinary school (pretty, and good catering for the reception). Very sweet and short. Food was very good. The dancing was the amazing part. See, this was a multicultural wedding. R is a Jew from Bombay. T's father is gay. And T loves to dance (ballroom and salsa mostly), but her new husband R not so much. But he took salsa lessons with her for their first dance. Then the bride/father dance which was wonderful (T's father also loves to dance). The rest of the songs alternated between Bollywood hits, dancing songs and 80/90s music. A lot more active than the typical midwestern wedding dance.

Sunday we went to a wine and art fair on the coast (I looked at all the jewelry booths for ideas), and drove the back roads up to San Jose. Back roads was a bad idea, and we were all car sick. Dropped off the car, then took Caltrain to the city. C realized she'd lost her camera. We had dinner, and seperated ways from C&C, promising to call the car rental place.

Monday and Tuesday morning, Tom and I wandered around San Fran. I finally rode a cable car, and the neatest part was watching the conductor drive. Steampunk tech. Hit both Chinatown and Japantown, and kept my shopping to a minimum (some globe beads, a bento box and tabi socks). We went twice to pier 39 to watch the sealions.

Tuesday was travel home day. Left early for the airport, so we could stop by the rental place. Camera was retrieved! Flight was delayed out of San Jose. It was close getting to our connecting flight but they held it for us (20 passengers were connecting to a plane that held 70 and was the last flight KC of the night) and it was right across the hall.

My dear, 'tipsy' just won't do for an excuse for a certain sword-box fight I observed at AnimeIowa....

;D

Yeah, me and dignity don't hang out much.

I resemble that remark.
