Liquor Up On Sunday
Aug. 3rd, 2008 08:57 pmGetting restless. The part of summer I hate is here, the hot and humid dog days of August. I spent last week doing field work near San Antonio, and so noticed the humidity more when I got back. I spent Friday evening and Saturday hiding in the AC, but got restless today. After cooking curry (another try at panang, a bit closer this time), I settled on my liquors.
Two weeks ago I started two quarter batches of creme de cacao (one vodka based and one brandy based). A week late, I finally strained and bottle them. Nummy - especially the vodka one. Then I picked leaves of my insane chocolate mint plant, and started up a full batch of creme de menthe. I'll try to bring a bottle to Cecil's Siege if I go. I also finally ordered a bottle capper, to help in aging and transportation.
Speaking of aging, I retried some of the Curacao I made this spring. Much tastier now, especially with a bit of menthe. However, I don't like the aftertaste. I suspect I wasn't careful enough with removing the white pith of the orange peel.
