This works fine the other way.

This starts off with one of the best bike trails through the city. Which is nice, because the direct route along Clinton Parkway is ridiculously hilly (they made us walk it from Iowa to the lake in 3rd grade).

Ok. So you start at the bike trail along the spillway. Very pretty, don't run over the joggers. Very nice view of the classic cyclothems (limestone, shale, limestone repetitions, why yes I did lead field trips here after visiting it three times as an undergrad).

Eventually you will come to a busy intersection. Thankfully, there's a light. Cross at the light, and follow 27th street. I like to bike on the road, but it is getting busier.

The main bike path splits off to the right at Crossgate, but to get to campus turn left onto Crossgate. Follow Crossgate across Clinton Parkway/23rd St. There are wide paths on each side of Clinton that you are allowed to bike on. Turn right.

I find the one on the north side to be in better repair. Also, you get to see my favorite bit of civic sculpture (not. imagine poor guy doing sit ups being yelled at by demons). Also, it is an easy detour to Cycleworks (and there used to be a JuiceStop which was great to kill your thrist).

Follow the sidewalk up to Iowa, turn left. Take this sidewalk till you get to 19th, and turn left onto 19th. Take an immediate right onto Constant Ave, and bike up the last bit of hill past the cemetery, then turn right. Take the bridge over Iowa to Daisy Hill. At the dorms, turn left again.

From here, cross 15th on Engel Road (this can take away depending on traffic). Take the next right on Crescent Road. You can follow Crescent until it turns into Jayhawk Blvd, and you're at campus.

Is that a particularly hilly route? (For comparison, the hill from 16th to the bridge at 15th on Iowa just about kills me, I have to stop every time to get a breather.)

This route is mostly flat, but you are going from Lake level to the top of the ridge.

I input the route (http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Clinton-Lake-to-KU-Campus) into bikely.com (http://www.bikely.com/) and you can investigate the topography changes with that. I'm not sure where you are talking about in your example, but if you are talking about the hill south of the bridge, it is steepest part of the entire route.
