Despite having a project on the wheel and an active knitting project, all I wanted to do today was sample to see if I liked the colors of some planned yarn.
So generally, spinning fiber is bought in multiples of four ounces. A while ago, I realized that the four ounces dark green merino/glitz fiber I bought was close in color to four ounces of merino/bamboo/silk fiber already in my stash. So I decided that I'd do a two ply. How about when I was ordering more fiber pick up merino/glitz and merino/rose/silk in coordinating colors and start thinking about a shawl (glitz wouldn't be a good choice for socks or a sweater), in this case very pastel. And then last month I picked up another four ounces of a merino/silk blend that was close to the second pair. But that switches things to a three ply yarn.. So which other merino/silk blend would go with the original greens? The first two are are brownish green, almost army green and the other ones I have are blue green. So I spun up a small chunk of each fiber on my spindle, making the two three ply yarns. Since I really like brioche in shawls, I knit up the samples into a three inch square. I think it looks pretty good. Someday, I'll spin up the fibers and pick a pattern.
