Next Project
Jan. 17th, 2010 06:40 pmWhen I was home for Christmas, Mom asked for a weaving to cover the table in the living room. I asked about color schemes, and her first answer was "doesn't show dust." Mom's practical. Further probing, and she showed me a stoneware mug that she likes. So browns with a greyish blue. As the table is the same width as her sewing cabinet, I'm going to weave coverings for both.
I got several cones of Noho (a cotton yarn that varies in width, makes a slubby fabric) with the loom, including a greenish brown. I want to try working with that, so I bought a cone of darker brown and blue. Friday I worked with color schemes and patterns, and decided to make the warp out of the dark brown.
I also realized that the yarn that the previous owner had measured for warp was tan Noho, and I liked it better than the greenish brown I'd planned on using. There's about fifty 20 yard lengths, which should work. I still don't trust myself planning the intersection of color and patterns in weaving. I know I'll be surprised how it turns out, and I hope it is pleasantly.
Yesterday I measured out the warp (finishing off that cone), and today I strung it through the reed. There's at least twice as many ends for this weaving as for the samplers, so it took quite a while.
Now I should eat.
