Domestic Goddess

Went for the loom and spinning wheel on Craigslist. I ended up offering 3/4 of what the seller originally asked for. The seller accepted my offer, provided I took everything and promised to use and love it all. Saturday afternoon I get to pick up a 36" four frame Nilus Leclerc jack loom, bobbin shuttles, rug shuttles, spare heddles, a weaving book, a dozen cones of yarn, a warping board, a niddy noddy, a yarn plier, a bobbin winder (woot!), an Art Knitter knitting machine, an Ashford single treadle spinning wheel (double woot! what I was actually searching craigslist for, looks like the Traveler model), fabric sample books and a yarn sample book. Went to the bank today to pick up the cash. When I got home, there was a check from my grandparents that covers a good portion of the cost. Solstice gift for me. I'm so excited.

Now I've got a turkey roasting in the oven. This is only the second time I've roasted a turkey, and the first time by myself. After three days I got annoyed with waiting for it to thaw and stuck it under water so I could fish out the giant block of ice in the cavity. To lazy to make mashed potatoes. Tomorrow, maybe.

Almond Raspberry Flaky Tart

0.5 c ground almonds
3 tbsp sugar

Combine in a small bowl. Name almond sugar.

0.25 c butter
0.5 c almond paste
2 eggs
1 tsp flour (I think)

Mix until smooth (probably with a hand mixer). Call filling.

10 sheets of phyllo dough

Layer dough in 10 inch tart pan. In between each layer, brush with melted butter and sprinkle on almond sugar. Add filling above phyllo. Back 20-25 minutes @ 400 F.

3 c raspberry
0.5 c raspberry jelly/jam

After cooking, top with raspberries. Melt jelly, and pour on top.

This Week's WTF Russia

Russian musical of the Snow Queen. So far the story is being told straight/normal. I want the Snow Queen's dress. And her driver (he's a polar bear).

ETA: Actually, the random saleslady has an even better dress. Aqua with feather puffs on head and forearms. And pink boots.

ETA3: OMG the bandits' song is great. As is the hat with ears. And Kay (love interest/boy stolen by the snow queen) is worthless. I hate his singing style. And his ugly sweaters. But other than that, this would be a fun movie for costumers.
