One of the benefits of buying a house is having a conversation topic. I don't have to discuss my thesis or my stalled craft projects. I don't have to even think about them. Instead there is the immediacy of spending lots of money.

I was sort of productive this morning. The weather is wonderful, so it is time to start biking up to campus. But wait, I needed to mail G-ma's birthday card (with news of the house and the first necklace I've made in months). And I might as well return my library books. Still made to work in time for office hours. I cheated and took the elevator up the last half.

But house - gushing time.
It's big enough - 3 bed, 2 bath and 1500 sq ft. Which is ridiculous for two people, but we won't grow out of, even if the unexpected happens. There is also an unfinished basement, mostly dry with high ceilings. There is a unattached garage and a run down sheddish thing. The scariest bit is the deck (some weak timbers) and the leaning retaining walls (walkin basement has garage door, probably where bike collection moves). Has a fish pond and a glacial erratic. Water is from a well, heat from a natural gas boiler. AC is old, but not terribly important to us. Best part is that it is on 5 acres 5 miles northeast of town. Two of the last three owners have lost spouses soon after buying it, but I'm not superstitious (and Lawnchair has life insurance). It is stretching our price range, but I'm pretty sure we can handle it. I keep flipping between excited and scared. Hope to close by end of May.

ETA: They've counteroffered.
