Living Life
Aug. 18th, 2004 03:29 pmWell, I had a mental debate if I should continue this after my return. I think I shall, though I don't know how often I will update it. And it will not be nearly as fascinating (not that I ever thought it was that interesting, I haven't been to wordy). Instead, it shall be my grips and complaints about trying to return to a normal life. Job, friends and boyfriend gripes.
Well, I am officially moved in. Or at least most stuff is in my apartment, minus is being given away to my sister. She seems to want more furniture, so it is a good deal. She is getting two bookshelves, some bookshelf parts, three two-piece cabinets (from Italy originally) and a 36" TV (because there was no way it was getting up the stairs in one piece). Now starts the fun process of unpacking. Because I wanted to send the poor moving boys on their way, I did not have them rebuilt my kitchen table or unpack for me. So far I have unpacked about half my kitchen stuff. The rest is waiting for the shelf I shall soon install in the corner (for microwave, toaster, toaster oven, and other random kitchen appliances). But I hung my spice rack and set up the liquor cabinet. Technically, the Navy won't move alcohol (because of its combustible nature), but I had already boxed it up and the Japanese movers just labeled it "food" for me. The open bottles leaked, but not two bad. I now have a selection suitable for entertaining guests.
On the job front, I did apply. I had originally only meant to start job hunting after the move in (interview clothes?), but I was randomly surfing and found my perfect job. Yep, cataloging at KU library. Or Interlibrary Loan. So I sort of started on the application, but decided the pile of information that I got at TAP (Transition Assistance Program, otherwise known as "How to survive in the real world, after we leave you alone in the cold, harsh reality of civilian life") class would be useful. Then yesterday afternoon I realized the deadline was yesterday. So I finished the application and wrote a semi-coherent cover letter. No time for a resume. Hey, at least I tried. Then the KU webserver went down. Well, it eventually came back up and my applications got in at 1657 and 1702. I know I should call and check on them. But it is hot out.
At least I get to see some family this weekend. Jen, Mom and Rain are coming down to exchange truck and furniture (possibly cats, though it is either a pair of barn kittens that have never seen a litter box, or a indoor/outdoor older kitty). As everyone else I have met in the building has cats (and two dogs), it should be fun.
And thanks to everyone who followed and commented. I will be swinging around visiting as soon as I get energetic enough. Right now I am a bit traveled out.
