Anime Review - 3x3 Eyes
Dec. 9th, 2007 11:22 amI need noise to fall asleep these days, so I watch anime (usually dubbed) on my handy portable DVD player. I've been having trouble deciding what to watch next, so I decided to rewatch what I have in alphabetical order(ish). First up is 3x3 Eyes.
3x3 Eyes is an older anime. I first rented it on VHS back in era when I was dating Aaron. It tells the story of Pai (a immortal demon from Tibet with a split personality) and Yakumo (the young man whose life is entangled with hers when he tries to save her from her demonbird pet).
I enjoyed 3x3 Eyes watching it this time. It is an OVA only 6 episodes long, and based on a long running manga, so there is much of the story left out and the ending is not the end of the story, just one arc.
As it is an older show, the artwork is different. No fancy computer special effects and backgrounds can be very static. Yakumo is one of the ugliest man character designs I remember seeing. The dubbing is not great, especially when it comes to Pai, as she has to talk different for each of her personalities. The flying monster in episodes 4-6 is very pathetic sounding.
But it is a neat story and there are little bits that make me laugh. For example, Yakumo works as a crossdressing hostess when we first met him.
Grade B - not perfect, but enough to make me want to find the manga.
