Weddings of June

This weekend was wedding season. Friday night we went to lawnchair's coworker's wedding reception, and Saturday we went to my old roomate's wedding and reception. The wedding was very nicely done, outside in perfect weather and short. And hopefully I will actually manage to hang out with her again (neither of us are terribly social people).

And now Slate.com is running a series of articles on weddings. Guess what? I'm still not getting married anytime soon.

Interestingly though, one of their articles is about how un-feminist it is to get an engagement ring. Woot for that, at least.

I was glad to read that article. I dislike diamonds (I find them ugly, dislike the recent mythology and worry about what regimes they're funding) to begin with, but could never understand the "two months salary". Dude, I'd rather lawnchair spend two months salary on a honeymoon. I can make my own damn jewelry.
