I woke up early and enjoyed our neighbor's wireless internet. Then, laid back down to enjoy my room AC and morning edition. I putzed around more, then decided to bike to Borders before it got hot. Couldn't find anything I wanted, so I came home.

Right before I moved, I gave in and ordered from the Bead of the Month club (dragons for July). My first bit of mail at the new place was my box of beads. Since I didn't take stuff out of the drawers of my craft table, and it has already been moved in because it is furniture, I have all my jewelry puttering supplies handy. I picked out two chips of translucent labradorite (moonstone, hardness 6, two cleavage planes near 90, play of color) and made a pair of dangly earrings out of them. Not quite my best, but not bad for being out of practice. In honor of [livejournal.com profile] elisem, mistress of the beads of the month, I am naming them Moon Dogs.

Did some running around. Picked up another load from the storage unit (mostly my clothes) and looked for shelf scavange (we don't have an attic or basement to store stuff in, so I'm trying to cover the house with shelving). None. Rewarded myself with a stop at Hastings. Still couldn't find anything that drew me in. I'm in the mood for epic fantasy, but I figure I can buy Memory, Sorrow and Thorn at Dusty (where I have gobs of store credit) or wait until I can unpack the Song of Fire and Ice (because I visited various sites that speculated about the mysteries in that series, so I have to see what I can see myself) or Crown of Stars. Hastings in the the process of renovating, so there are hoardes of bookdrones unpacking and shelving.

I guess one wanted a break from shelving (or something) and decided to help me. Or I'm a nerd magnet, and a purple haired girl wandering around the F/SF shelves to to tempting to pass up. Now I'm not very good at describing what I like, or who. Surprisingly he actually helped somewhat. Ok, I worry since one of his suggestions was Eddings, and he reminded me of Shaf. I don't understand my twitchness around men who remind me of Shaf, or why some men do. My relationship was not that bad, just not right for who I am. But there are some cues that make me hypersensitive around those guys.

This morning, I thought I saw Maggie peaking out from under Jen's old Cavalier - the one with the bumper sticker that reads "Join the Army; travel to exotic, distant lands; meet exciting, unusual people; and kill them." I went to the barn to feed the other cats, calling "kitty, kitty" to give the Kansas Kats the right idea. Then I went over to the Cavalier, two of the barn kittens following. Sunshine poked her head out, then ventured forth. A little hissing on her part towards the established kittens. I brought a pan of food and some water to set under the Cavalier, which seems to be a home base at the moment (perhaps the Kansas Kats chose it because it still has Kansas plates on it?). And now I just came back in from spending some quality time with Sunshine, who is quite frisky this cool morning, and climbing the small walnut tree that is next to the Cavalier.
