Sunning in Šipan

affrecaI decided to go to an island today. I had not decided which one, so I forgot to ask about information. I overslept and missed the 8 oclock ferry, so ended up taking the 930 one. Ran into Ivonne, my German roomate from the HI Hostel two nights before. She suggested Šipan, so off we went. Caught the ferry with 3 minutes to spare.
Wonderful island. We got dropped off in Šipan, on the northern end of the island. Ate a wonderful lunch then went sunning on the beach. There was no one else there when we arrived. The beach was on one side of the narrowest part of the island, so on the other was the rough Adriatic Sea. Very neat contrast to the calm sandy beach. There were sea urchins! so we kept our shoes on. Any one who can tell me why they all seemed to have rocks on them gets a postcard. I think I burned the back of my legs. I had left sunscreen off them because I wanted them to get a bit brown. And only the back of my legs are burnt, drat.
We then walked to the south end of the island, through beautiful fields. Ok, along the one road on the island, bordered by thistles and dill. And green butterflies on purple clover. Saw plenty of lizards.
The plan is to go to another island tomorrow (if I am up early enough) and go kayaking.
