Back in the Saddle
Sep. 7th, 2020 08:24 pmOr at least at the dining room table. Last week was eaten by field work, of which I was the field team lead. Stuff got done, and I probably over worried. I spent most of it with new coworker, and I'm trying not to let myself beat myself up over how I talked. Over stressed, not confident. Oh, and my maternal grandma died on Monday. But it all got done, as far as I can tell. Well, minus the wells that aren't accessible. And I'll just keep working until I'm confident again. Fake it til you make it? Needs more faking.
I did not end up going up for the funeral. After four days in small town, I'm wasn't as confident about my isolation to be willing to spend time with people who want to hug. I watched the service over facebook, and tried not to be jealous of the family photos. My mother also chose not to attend, though I'd probably have stayed at her farm if I had gone up (there's a spare house, long story. Since I'm still not talking to my father, I don't know if it has working plumbing yet).
Otherwise I've had a lazy weekend. I got one sleeve done on the cardigan, and now I hate the depth of the armhole. It is currently hibernating until I change my mind or I'm willing to rip out an entire sweater to the armholes. Thankfully, I left the safety line.
While digging through yarn to pick the next project, I found the purple/bronze cardigan. I used the Just the Right Angle pattern, which is more of a schematic than a pattern. I played with colors, by using the bronze yarn for the beginning triangle and the lower arms. However, it really needed something on the neckline. I played around with an i-cord, but still looked weird. I ended up doing ribbing with the bronze yarn for the entire neckline, playing yarn chicken and weighing the remaining yarn after each row. I got in six before I ran out, but I think that's just right. The cardigan is long, especially with the back triangle, but it should be good with maxi skirts, which is all I'm wearing these days (except for field work).
After finishing that early this morning, I contemplated the next project. After measuring the length of the last few spins, I started second guessing myself on patterns. Ahh, but I'd swatched the blue/orange yarn and picked a pattern (Brass and Ink) earlier this summer, so that's what on the needles. I've only gotten to the short rows for the neckline, but it's a start. Only had to rip once when I realized I hadn't switched to the larger needles.
Thank you for reading my nattering.
