I May Have Bought Another Spinning Wheel
Aug. 28th, 2020 09:19 pmOne of my guild mates posted about a garage sale an hour away that had a lot of fiber crafting supplies. I had some credit time from earlier in the week, so I decided to cut out of work early and check it out. The wool fiber was mostly raw fleece or scratchy, so I didn't want it. But there was a good variety of top of various cellulose types (various flax, ramie and cotton) and silk, so I bought that. Then I debating about the double drive Ashford traditional. I've been keeping an eye out for one or an Ashford Elizabeth because I want to try out double drive, and I love my Ashford Traveller (Urd). She came with a box of supplies including a distaff and quill if I wanted to try old school spinning (and every piece of paper that came with the wheel including the packing slips). Her wood needs a bit of TLC, but looks so much better after a coat of wood food this evening. It looks like some child used an orange crayon on various parts, but those are much less noticeable after the rubbing. The standard flyer and hooked jumbo flyers are cracked, so I'll investigate if they're repairable. My plan would be to use her as a plying wheel, so it's good that the other jumbo flyer is in good shape. I figure I'll play with her a bit and decide if I'm keeping her or my current plying wheel.
