May. 13th, 2011 10:13 pmMy Wednesday night bath was interrupted by a phone call from my father. My mother had a stroke and was in the hospital. Needless to say, I was a bit freaked out and emotional. I decided to take a couple of days leave and drive up to see her. They'd been on vacation, so I had to drive all the way to Rapid City. Lawnchair and I left Thursday morning and got in Thursday night. She'd already improved.
The stroke was in her cerebellum, and seems to have affected mostly her balance, sight and left side fine motor skills. Her language skills are fine, but her voice is very hoarse. She still has trouble swallowing, but managed thick liquids today. Several of her sisters are out, so we kind of overwhelm her hospital room.
It could have been so much worse. It is going to be hard, and she's got a lot of rehabilitation in front of her, but I still have my Mommy.
