Stop killing cats*. Throws me out of the story every time. I'm OK with killing the entirety of Toronto if you manage to get the cat on last shuttle to space. Or killing all the humans except Ripley. Just save the cats and keep them out of refrigerators.

*I also object to destroying favorite stuffed animals. McCaffrey, I'm looking at you.

Agreed. I didn't cry when a main character died in the Drizzt series (Wulfgar, if you've read them), but I teared up when Drizzt's cat appeared to be dead. Rawr.

Today I read a story in which the main character was a murderer and a rapist. But it was magically ok, because he killed his cat. The end.
