Naka took a lot out of me this year. I'm glad I already decided to swap jobs before it, because with the number of people coming up to the consuite, I can't be nice and social for 18 hours a day. Or even 8. I'm an introvert. So I spent the last few days interacting with as few people as possible (though I did go renew my drivers license.)

WisCon panels are up. My women vet panel made it to the line up. I didn't check to see what they did to my write up, I hope they improved it. I volunteered to be on that panel, and one about Phyllis Eisenstein (mostly because she's an obscure enough author that it surprised me. I read most famous book when I was about 10, and own all but one of her novels. The one I don't own is impossible to find).

Birthday this weekend. I took down all the winter holiday cards and put up my three birthday cards (all from my grandparents).

Etiquette question: Should I bother to tell the grandparents that I share a last name with that I still share their last name? It really isn't important in the long run, but I like my name. Thankfully, the check they sent for Christmas was to [my first name] and [lawnchair's first name] [lawnchair's last name], so we just deposited it into the joint account.

It's fine to tell the grandparents that you kept your name, but don't expect it to change anything. Marz had that issue for years before her grandparent's passing.

As the above commenter says, it won't make a difference. Everyone knows I didn't change my name, and certain people will address things to me by Jimmy's surnname even so, despite multiple reminders.

And yay, you're going to WisCon! I suspect I'll see you there. :D

Hope to see you at WisCon. I went to my local sci-fi con which is on the same weekend last year, and was seriously disappointed by the programming (especially compared to WisCon). This year I talked [livejournal.com profile] graydown into coming with me.

I'm pretty sure retelling my grandparents is unnecessary and useless. It just amuses me that it is the default, even though I was the only grandchild to share their (admittedly quite common) last name.

I sympathize -- I'm in hiding until Tuesday. I may not be fit for human company even then... I did some bad things to myself physically, too, though I didn't realize it. Turns out that seventeen hours in an extremely uncomfortable chair does bad things to the back. Who knew? :P

Hope you make it Tuesday, but I understand. My feet fucking hate me, I can't imagine how bad it would have been if I couldn't have moved around.

Sad feet :( Sitting all day didn't feel bad at the time, and the bruises across the backs of my legs are gone...

...

and then there was cake. Tasty, tasty cake.
