Is it Wednesday Yet?
Nov. 2nd, 2008 08:16 pmI appreciate voting in Lawrence. I've never voted anywhere else (didn't figure out absentee balloting during my traveling years). I don't have to worry about my vote being uncountable - we fill out bubblesheets. Kids my age and younger have been well trained in the use of bubblesheets from tests of all kinds. But my ballots have the questions on the bubblesheets. They leave a papertrail (which is the original) and can be manually and mechanically recounted multiple times. And harder to half fill.
And I can vote early. I've done so twice. Two years ago I realized my class field trip overlapped with voting day, so I went in early. This year I was paranoid about when Grandma Shorock was going to pass, so I voted early. That was the longest line I've had when voting (like two people before me). I hear it is heavier now, with a half an hour wait possible. Actual voting day should be fine - a lot more polling places will be open. And 20% of the registered voters in Douglas county have already voted.
Tuesday night will be hard. This is the third presidential election I've spent with
lawnchair. I'm planning on going to sewing night, but I'll probably duck out early to get home to him.
