There's Wildlife Outside
Aug. 28th, 2010 01:36 pmWent out to Lawnchair's boss's hobby farm today for another load of wood. As I was pulling logs from a decaying woodpile, I started mentally reviewing poisonous critters that live in wood piles (brown recluses and rattlesnakes). Then I saw movement out of the corner of my eye, and managed not to scream.
Just a frog/toad. I pointed it out to Lawnchair, and went back to moving logs. And long skinny tail!
A lizard. More logs. When we were down to the last few, finally saw a snake. A nice foot long garter snake. I offered to move him to the woods behind us, but then realized that we'd pulled out everything useful.
On a related note, I saw a red tailed hawk in the neighbor's tree Thursday as I was hanging laundry. I spotted her because she was a noisy bird, screeching her head off. Lju and Bear were out with me, but I figured they were safe enough. No hawk is going to be able to fly off with my 20 pound cat, and she was probably just passing through.
