Fancy Crafts
Jun. 17th, 2010 12:05 pmSo my craft room is a bit humid. Well, everything is a bit humid right now, but the craft room is partially underground, and slightly cooler than the rest of the house, which ups the relative humidity. And I don't want my fabric stash to mildew away (what I want to do is start selling some of it or use some of it).
When I lived in Japan, I dealt with this by buying lots of desiccant packets at the 100 yen store. Couldn't find cheap ones (and Wal Mart only had 6) here though. So I decided to make some, and make them reusable.
5 lb bag of silica desiccant from the flower section of hobby lobby (which can be dried out in the microwave), 24 4 oz jelly jars from Dillions and 24 4"x4" muslin squares. Unscrew the jars, fill them half way with desiccant, cover the tops with muslin, and screw down the lid ring. Put in all my rubbermaid tubs, the wool toybox and the wardrobe. Should help.
