Car starting issues finally got bad enough this weekend that it was time for it to go to Fred's (I know the rest of you are all are Slimmer's customers, but Fred's is my shop until they treat me wrong). Of course, now it won't start at all. I suspect we cut it to close. So now I'm waiting for the tow truck to swing by. Might as well watch Telephone covers and mashups.

Car is off to Fred's.

After my morning bath, I decided it was time to garden. I went out and planted the packet of leek seeds I bought yesterday (after weeks of looking, found some at the Merc). I still wanted to work on the garden, so I biked over to the greenhouse outlet that is using the open lot at 9th and Iowa. Turns out they have four packs of plants now. So I may have gotten a bit much. 8 more tomato plants (bringing the total to 12 plants), 8 more pepper plants (4 hot and 4 milk for a total of 11 plants), and 8 cauliflower (I meant to get 4 cauliflower and 4 broccoli, but apparently I wasn't paying enough attention).

This brings this year's planting to apple trees, pear tree, peach tree, cherry tree, asparagus, rhubarb, strawberries, raspberries, mint, onions, chives, leeks, cilantro, thai basil, sweet peas, lettuce, spinach, radishes, peppers, cauliflower, and tomatoes. Not a bad start. So far I've eaten chives (planted last year) and a spinach leaf.

1) Top 10 men who were really women - I'd argue with d'Eon being on this list. Still boggling that d'Eon was a real person, not someone Japan made up for an anime. Related, [livejournal.com profile] jonquil's post reviewing a biography of d'Eon. Also, the number of women who went to war after their men is amusing.

2) The Icelandic volcano's name pronounced - I'm actually jealous of whoever is teaching Earthquakes and Natural Disasters this semester with so many applicable examples. Eyjafuckit is having quite the interesting eruption. As Iceland is the combination of rift and hotspot, most eruptions are basaltic - calm lava eruptions. However, the ash currently erupting is roughly andesitic in composition. Eruptions is the blog I've been following for geology side.

3) Video games as art - response to Ebert. There's some interesting points brought up.

4) Star Wars at the Park - Two stories of kids playing Star Wars. I'm amused that Star Wars so much a part of the mythology of kids. Very cute, especially Yoda.

5) WTF! - will make you angry. This is why we need gay marriage - because other documents are disregarded.
