Bland Life
Apr. 16th, 2010 10:09 pmWent down to the library book sale with
queza7 and her fellow. I'm not sure what all they got, but I got a load of paperbacks and a couple of craft books. The real random find of this trip was "The Jewel-Hinged Jaw" by Samuel R. Delany - a book of sci-fi language criticism, from what I can tell. I suspect I will try to get as much out of it as I can and pass it on to
graydown.
Then I waited around for the woman who sold me my loom. She'd emailed earlier this week to say that she found more parts for it. I now have the bit that is the attached bench, an second reed, and two sticks of wood that she didn't know what they did. I have tried out the bench bit, and I think it works. I wouldn't let Lawnchair sit on it, but it seems to be sturdy enough for me. And I can bring my dining table chair back up to its mates.
1) Hospital visitation rights for gays - Finally. Damned pissed that it takes a president saying that hospitals have to honor all patients' advance directives, including those designating who gets family visitation privileges. Not only is this important to my gay and lesbian friends, it is important to my family. While they have straight privilege of assumptions, neither my parents nor my sister and brother in sin are married couples. I'd hate for Dad not to be able to visit Mom, or me not to be able to visit Dad in the hospital.
I still pissed at DADT not being repealed yet.
2) Theiving Octopus
3) Hawk vs. Government Employees Save the ducklings! For some reason reminds me of Lawnchair's favorite MLS anecdote. Toronto's soccer stadium is close to the lake, and therefore has a seagull problem. So the stadium got a hawk to sit high in the stadium to scare off the gulls. The PR guys had a competition to name the hawk. Thus - Bitchy the Hawk.
