I ate a lot of turkey over the holidays. So I'm craving beef. Despite my complaining about how long I ate leftovers last time, I decided to do another pot roast.

1 onion (approx $0.50)
1 tbsp canned garlic (approx $0.10)

Cut up onion, fry onion and garlic for about a minute in leftover sesame oil.

3 carrots (approx $0.30)
3 potatoes (approx $0.25, had bought a five pound bag for a buck)
1 can mushrooms (approx $0.50)
2 vegetable bullion cubes (approx $0.50)
1 bay leaf (who knows, cheap)

Peel potatoes (were cheap and green) and cut into quarters. Cut up carrots. Put with onion into crock. Add water to cover.

2 lb chuck roast (approx $4)

Fry in pan for a minute each side, add to pot. Cook for hours, until meat falls apart. Admit you'll be eating this for the next week. But at least it comes in under six bucks. And makes the house smell good (if you're not a vegetarian).

I am officially a cheap date - after one glass of wine, I'm to drunk to go out (not that I was planning on it). Damn tasty wine, though. Cracked the Orange Muscat we picked up in California, which sadly is not carried anywhere nearby. Plan is to drink the other half at midnight, then crash.
