Wow, lots of birthdays recently on my friends list. As of Friday, [livejournal.com profile] lawnchair is a year short of thirty. Where has the time gone? He was just an awkward college freshman, experimenting with growing his hair and beard. Then [livejournal.com profile] missdoom Saturday (sorry I missed party, I want space rift between here and Vermintown) and [livejournal.com profile] queza7 today.

Nothing much accomplished this weekend. Finally hung out with Curt and Zach on Friday, watching "King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" (or, we thought both titles were cool, couldn't decide which to use). Saturday I met up with Kerry and Jackie at the Farmer's Market, went back to watch anime and went to my Naka Kon staff interview (Kerry was scheduled right after me).

By Sunday, I really didn't want to deal with people. I avoided the parade (I am not a crowd person) and skipped gaming. Next sewing project will probably be SCA garb. Not that I'm doing much SCA (probably won't go to Lilies as I don't know anyone coming down for it), but I want to master it. And I have lots of linen now.

Computers have revolutionized research. Not just in all the models, or the word processors people use, but in the access to library holdings.

As a child, I earned spare money by photocopying for my mother (I'm not really sure what, but I did a lot of it). So when I got to college myself, I was OK with the idea of copying articles out of journals for classes and papers. I actually preferred 2nd generation copies, because they were faster than flipping each page. I graduated, tried to live in the real world, and came back. Now, get most newer articles directly as PDFs. If I'm willing to wait, I can request for paper copies to scanned in and emailed. Today my adviser recommended I look at two thesises. I searched the card catalog to figure out where they where filed. But they're electronic, and I can just download them. No heavy book to check out or copy.

I love living in the future.

So I let Barry out around 3 this afternoon. I started sewing, and lost track of time. Around 5 I went out to fetch the cat and get mail. No cat. Harness buckles were open. Checked house. Fed cats, still no Barry. Walked around neighborhood. Called friends, and Curt came out to help. No cat. 6:30 I had walked all the close blocks, and had to go pick up Tom. Checked house again. Lju wanted out, which she rarely does. Let her out, figuring I'd follow her to her brother. She actually wandered to the street, then ran back. She kept meowing, like something was missing. I heard a mew in the distance, that sounded like Barry's "I'm freaked" mew. Threw cat in house, walked towards mew. Found Barry. He was very freaked, all bushy and shaking. Threw him in house, picked up Tom, and bought Curt dinner. Sleepy now.
