Ah, Monday mornings. Tom was on the phone when I wandered downstairs. Hmm.. Work looking for him? Nope. He was calling our landlord about something he had seen in the paper this morning. Tom was asking why we hadn't been told about our landlord planning a triplex in the empty lot next to us. Landlord didn't really answer that question and is not sure when he is going to build it. I can understand the capitalistic urge to do something with the empty lot (called our garden, which we spent this weekend ripping brush out of), but there are 25 empty apartments in a two block area around us and building prices are high.

It's worse because I just started appreciating our huge yard. I putzed around yesterday clearing all the brush out of one of the flower beds, and it looks so much nicer. I found several flower labels for tulips. Meanwhile, Tom started busting sod in the area we wanted to garden, and cut down an elm sapling that blocked sunlight to that area. Yesterday was wonderful, just one degree short of the high for Jan 1 (which was set last year). I also sat and read. Do not want to trade that for a construction site.
