In Rovaniemi
Jul. 16th, 2004 10:01 amWell, I have started on the kamikaze trip through Scan. I am currently 8 miles south of the Arctic Circle, in Rovaniemi, the northern end of the Finnish rail system. From here I go back south to Kemi, take a bus to Tornio, and walk across the border. I had originally planned to continue onto Lalua, but have gotten no response from the hostel there. Still undecided. We will see how bus connections work out and how sleepy I am. This is the second night I have not gotten a full nights sleep, so I am not very steady on my feet. Thankfully buses do not require much.
Oh, I love northern Finland. Reminds me of the summer I spent in Alaska, minus the mountains. I can see why you do not hear of Finns in LA. But it is amusing to watch the five other tourists who arrived on the train wander aimlessly about town. Other than a Sami museum and being close to the Arctic Circle, there is not much interesting about the town. But I like it.
