So, one of my favorite anime series is Full Metal Panic. It is half high school comedy, half mecha. There is a lot of random sci-fi trivia in the show. For example, in the first episode, Kaname is carrying "So Long, and Thanks for all the Fish".

One of the armslaves (series name for mecha) is the M9 Gernsback. Odd name. Eventually I realized why it was familiar. Hugo Gernsback, for who the Hugo awards are named after.

I love Full Metal Panic! Just got it on Netflix, except disc 6, which has apparently gone into dvd hell. I'd noticed the "So Long and Thanks For All the Fish" but hadn't pieced together the armslave name. Cool!

The manuscript was found while I was in the process of closing down Gernsback Publications Inc. in 2003. It was apparently written some time in the 1950’s. It covers all the areas that Hugo found interesting: wireless communications, science fiction, publishing, patents, foretelling the future, and much more.

Ah. Sometimes I feel like a big nerd too. Recently, I've been watching for and identifying the birds in the area since they are different than the ones back home. There is a crested lark over here that is sand colored (both male and female). I was unsure of the identification of the bird until one flew by about 2 feet from my head and I followed it with my eye to confirm the brown stripes on its neck and breast.

I've seen most of Fumoffu, which was quite silly, but not the other sequel.
