So I have started on the MacBackPackers tour, returning to Edinburgh on Tuesday. So far it has been quite fun, though I have spent more money than I would have on my own. There are about 20 other people on the tour, and we are packed onto the bus. But, my seatmate is only with us today, so I should have more space for the rest of the trip. And our driver/tour guide is a good storyteller (and I know more Scottish history/story than I thought.. hmm..). We had the choice in the morning of going east to a fishing village and fog or west to the World Highland Games. We went west. Stopped off at the castle from the Holy Grail (Monty Python). Actually a very neat castle, and I do have pictures. Then lunch at a pub and the Games. Quite world. One of the leading contenders was from the Netherlands. Now, it might just be my faulty recollection, but the Netherlands are the LOWlands? Then continued on past some beautiful lochs. There is apparently a bike path from Glasgow to Inverness that follows and old rail line, so it should be flattish despite being through the highlands. Then I went rafting. Three times what I paid in Slovakia, but very pretty and bigger rapids (class 4). Tired, but fun.
